About
The EuroVelo & Cycling Tourism Conference is the key event bringing together all actors in the cycling tourism sector. It aims to boost knowledge transfer on cycling and tourism and to raise awareness on the EuroVelo network at local and international level.
Theme
By exploring the theme ‘Cycling: a new perspective on heritage’, the Conference encourages participants to consider the role of cycling in shaping cultural and natural heritage. Izmir is a perfect example, with the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Ephesus and Pergamon.
Organisers
The EuroVelo & Cycling Tourism Conference 2023 is organised by the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) and Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA). The event is held in partnership with the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and other local stakeholders.

EuroVelo 8 in İzmir connects the ports of Dikili and Çeşme via Lesbos and Chios islands and passes through seventeen townships of the city. The route is structured with reference to the ancient sites and their interconnection based on natural, cultural and local values. EuroVelo 8 in İzmir connects two very important ancient cities. Pergamon in the north, and Ephesus in the South with other ancient sites on the route constituting the route’s backbone.
